Book Donation Guidelines

What we accept

  • Fiction and nonfiction hardcover and softcover books in new or gently used condition
  • Current novels by popular authors
  • Books should be a quality you would buy or give to a friend
  • Also vintage, coffee table and collectible books

We do NOT accept

  • Books with yellow or torn pages
  • Spiral bound books or books in 3-ring binders
  • Writing or highlighting on the pages
  • Broken bindings
  • Water damage
  • Missing covers or pages
  • Encyclopedias
  • Mold or mildew
  • Outdated information

How to pack

  • Pack in a sturdy cardboard box, plastic container or heavy-duty tote bag
  • Limit the weight to nor more than 25 pounds so an older volunteer can lift it

Where to bring

  • To the Circulation Desk at Weaver or Riverside Library during library hours
  • Please do not leave book donations outside the building or in the library book drop
  • If more than 10 boxes or bags, please call 401-742-2751 in advance to schedule delivery

When and where to recycle

  • No one likes to throw away books. If your books do not meet the requirements for library donation, consider recycling them.  Softcover books can go right in your recycling bin. Hardcover books can also be recycled if you remove the cover.
